Johnny Green here with the 30th episode of the Higher Things Club, and it's going to be a fantastic one because we are going to be talking about the hottest new cannabis consumption device on planet Earth right now. Puffco unveiled this sexy device on June 15th. I ordered mine the following day on the 16th and received it on Friday the 24th, right as I was about to head to the Oregon coast for the weekend. Perfect timing to say the least. Since then, I have put my Proxy through the ringer.
But before we get to my thoughts on the new device, I have a story about Puffco, the company itself. I first became a fan of Puffco back in 2015 when the legendary cannabis activist and all-around pain and prohibitions ass, Tom Angel, sent me an email about the company. New York's medical cannabis program was just ramping up, and smoking flower was prohibited. Puffco, a vaporizer company that would directly benefit from a vaporizer-only policy, advocated for allowing patients to be able to smoke flower because it was the right thing to do. In an industry where a lot of companies are fakers trying to act like they care when they really don't, it was very refreshing to see a company that truly believed in sensible cannabis policy, even at the expense of their own bottom line.
Puffco makes some of the best portable cannabis devices on Earth, including their original device, the Puffco Pro, which I think has since been replaced by the Puffco Plus. That is how much of a cannabis community dinosaur I am now. World-class cannabis devices have literally come and gone during my time in cannabis, which is kind of funny if you think about it. I have owned both the Puffco Pro and the Plus, and they are two of the best dab pens out there. They were the first vape pens in the industry that did not have plastics, glues, or fibers. Puffco also has other devices, including the Puffco Peak, which I have meant to acquire for a few years now but I haven't got quite around to it. Expect to see it in an upcoming video.
The focus of today's video is this Puffco Proxy. It comes in this fancy carrying case, which we will open up. The case itself has this outside pouch. I don't know what you would keep in here, but it has one in case you need it. The case zips open, and in the upper part, there's a dab tool, some cleaning tips, and a box for the instruction manual and whatnot. Down below is the device itself, the glass holder that it sits in, a spot to put a dab holder in, this compartment that reminds me kind of a glove, like a glove box in a car where the charger cable goes. Pretty cool. The holder and the device itself all look super kick-ass, and it's convenient that everything has its own place.
We will start by looking at each piece, as quite a bit of it separates. This glass part itself is really cool how it goes from dark gray to clear as it nears the mouth tip. It's ergonomic-friendly and feels fairly durable. It's shaped to perfectly sit on the table. This glass holder is also a peek into the future of sorts in that I assume there will be all types of custom glass holders dropping in the future, non-glass ones either by Puffco or by other folks, and I can't wait to see what people come up with.
This is the main technology right here, and it breaks into two parts. This top part has a ceramic chamber where you put your dabs, after which you close this tab. Typically you won't have these two parts detached, but I'm showing you just for reference purposes. You can see that the path for the vapor goes from this hole to this hole and then out this hole. Before you use it for the first time, you need to make sure that it's fully charged, which I made sure to do. Put your dabs into the chamber. I scored some really good live diamonds while I was at the coast, ended up going through most of it, which I promise you is quite a treat.
Puffco Proxy only has one button, which you use to both set the temperature and to warm up the device. Click the button once to change the temperature. Blue is the lowest, then green, then red, which is obviously the hottest. The white is the peak temperature setting, which I think is what the manufacturer recommends, but I tend to stick to the red. Basically, the lower the temperature, the more flavor you typically get, but the clouds are also smaller on most devices. I usually go somewhere in the middle, which in this case is green. However, the ceramic chamber on the Puffco Proxy makes for such smooth hits that I go for the gusto with the hottest setting.
One thing that is really important that I can already see right now with this Proxy is keeping it clean, which is easy to do. I recommend cleaning after every session using Q-tips and 90% alcohol or higher. It comes with a handful of swabs, but you could use Q-tips, which are cheaper and easier to find. I'm sure you will want to not only clean the ceramic chamber but also wherever the air flows through on the chamber, both holes on the battery, and the glass holder itself. The Puffco Proxy comes with a one month limited warranty on the atomizer itself and a standard one-year limited warranty on the rest of the device.
In summary, to answer the 300 question, is the Puffco Proxy worth the money? Shelling out 300 bucks for a device that is specific to concentrates is definitely not for everyone. If you do not like concentrates or do not have plans to consume them on a frequent basis, then the Proxy is probably not for you. But if you love concentrates and you want to consume them in an efficient, advanced way, then you should definitely consider getting the Proxy. Folks that don't have the 300 bucks but want to get a close experience, the other Puffco products are amazing too and offer a solid alternative.
